Laser Applications for Equine Athletes

Muscle and tendon strains, joint sprains and wounds are common injuries in equine athletes. Equine tissue like human tissue is highly vulnerable to repetitive stress and can be career limiting for the athlete if not treated properly the first time. Equine veterinarians across North America have discovered a medical technology that heals injuries on a cellular level safely and effectively without any discomfort to the animal. This new medical technology is known as the Theralase line of therapeutic medical laser systems.

The Theralase superpulsed laser system can penetrate up to 4 inches into tissue through all the hair and skin of an equine athlete to promote cellular regeneration at the source of the injury. Laser energy helps to repair damaged cells by accelerating several of the body's natural healing mechanisms. Depending on the severity of the injury, the equine athlete can return to competition usually within a few weeks instead of many months of stall rest. This means that your equine athlete can be back to competing in a fraction of the time.

Treatable Conditions

The Theralase superpulsed laser has over 17 clinically proven pre-programmed treatments for equine applications.
Partial List only

Everyone benefits from the Theralase laser system; as your equine athlete gets better, he/she will be able to return to training and eventually racing. The impact of using Theralase on your injured equine athlete is remarkable. By utilizing the Theralase super-pulsed cold laser technology for neuromuscular skeletal conditions, you will notice an immediate improvement in the health of your equine athlete to get him/her back on the track, so that you see your investment running again.

Some medical conditions that we have seen successfully treated in the field through the use of Theralase technology are shown below:

Ground Breaking Scientific Study Results Presented at North American Association of Laser Therapy

Dr. Lothar Lilge, a Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics; University of Toronto will present at the North American Association of Laser Therapy (NAALT) at their 2011 Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from September 22 to 24, 2011. The preclinical study by Theralase pertains to the mechanism of action of its 660 nm and 905 nm dual wavelength low level laser therapy (LLLT) and further explains how the patented Theralase technology activates the key inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS) pathway. The research goes into detail to explain the importance of the iNOS pathway for accelerating the healing of tissue and why the Theralase dual wavelength technology is able to completely activate this key cellular pathway.

Learn What's New in Low Level Laser Therapy Technology

Since medical practitioners are always looking to learn about new technologies, we encourage you to spare about a half-an-hour of your day to learn why Theralase is becoming the preferred choice of low level laser therapy amongst medical practitioners; this could be an educational visit if nothing else. The demonstration is brief with no purchasing commitments. We know your time is valuable.

Theralase Technologies Inc. founded in 1995, designs, develops, manufactures and markets patented, superpulsed laser technology utilized in biostimulation applications. The technology is safe, effective and drug free in the treatment of chronic pain, neural muscular-skeletal conditions and wound care. Theralase is Health Canada, FDA and CE approved. Theralase has proven its high efficacy rate by being the only cold laser manufacturer to have conducted an FDA approved clinical study on Chronic Knee Pain.  In addition, Theralase provides best-in-class activation of all three known cellular pathways (ATP, iNOS and Na+ / K+ pump), at depths up to 4 inches, that has been confirmed to accelerate the natural healing process, as well as controlling inflammation and reducing pain.

An impressive 92% of DCs who use laser care would recommend other DCs to add therapeutic lasers to their practice, a Dynamic Chiropractic email survey has found. Not surprisingly perhaps, 85% of those who would recommend it to peers said it is because these devices have proven to be a very effective part of their treatment strategy, while 65% said their patients enjoy laser care and have referred others as a result of the laser care. Equally impressive are the business results the respondents reported: 68%  said they have seen an increase in practice income as a result of incorporating laser therapy into their treatments. Another 46% reported that the reputation of their practice has improved.

Please let me know if it is possible for us to coordinate a demonstration at your clinic at a time that is convenient for you.

Warm Regards,
Kristina Hachey

Advanced Healing Power - Decreases Pain and Inflammation

Fast - Effective - Safe Cutting Edge Technology
The Theralase laser is unmatched in the industry. We penetrate further, heal faster, and relieve your suffering; sometimes after only minutes of treatment.
Theralase therapeutic laser treatments provide patients with a safe, effective and painless therapy that uses the body's own natural healing systems to relieve pain, increase
joint mobility, increase tissue integrity and promote cell regeneration.
Theralase lasers work by supplying energy to the body in the form of billions of photons of light. The body absorbs this laser light on a cellular level and transforms it into chemical energy, which the body then uses to commence its own tissue repairs. The biostimulating effect of laser
therapy causes a decrease in inflammation and pain and an increase in tissue regeneration and healing.
Theralase's dual wavelength super pulsing technology is the only laser that penetrates up to 4" into tissue activating all three known cellular pathways
    1. Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) Pathway: Accelerates Healing
    2. Nitric Oxide (NO) Pathway: Reduces Inflammation
    3. Lipid Absorption Pathway: Decreases Pain
Theralase lasers offer treatment for acute and chronic pain conditions, addictions, and cosmetic revitalization. Our lasers help you regain the active and healthy lifestyle you yearn for by utilizing the power of light energy.
Over 3,000 clinical studies worldwide have proven the success of therapeutic lasers in the healing of neural muscular-skeletal conditions. Theralase has performed a blinded randomized control study on chronic knee pain proving the clinical efficacy of Theralase therapeutic laser technology and achieving FDA 510(k) approval for chronic knee pain.

Press Release - Theralase Light Activated Photo Dynamic Compounds Successfully Destroy E. coli Bacteria

Advanced Research Planned For Early Commercial Sterilization Program

Toronto, Ontario – September 14, 2011 Theralase Technologies Inc. (TSX-V: TLT) announced today that it has developed a new application for its patented Photo Dynamic Compounds (PDCs); specifically, the destruction of Escherichia coli, commonly known as E. coli, a widely prevalent disease causing bacteria.
The patented Theralase PDCs have shown an ability to destroy bacteria when light activated, in new research performed under the direction of Theralase’s Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Arkady Mandel. Future applications of this newly discovered use of PDC technology to destroy bacteria include: enhanced food safety through sterilization of food processing equipment, hospital treatment room and medical equipment sterilization, implant sterilization and other bacteria destruction applications.
Escherichia coli is a rod-shaped bacterium that has been known to cause food poisoning in humans. The most recent outbreak has killed hundreds of people and made thousands sick internationally, directly impacting the food supply. European farmers alone claimed to have lost up to US$611 million a week as recently as May and June of this year.
Moreover, E. coli is one of the top 4 pathogen causing Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that HAIs have led to US$45 billion in healthcare costs annually and have resulted in nearly 100,000 deaths per year, making HAIs the fourth leading cause of death.
Dr. Arkady Mandel, Chief Scientific Officer at Theralase Inc. stated, “Our research has repeatedly demonstrated that our Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) destruction of E. coli bacteria is effective and represents a significant opportunity in the area of disinfection and sterilization of bacterial pathogens that may cause serious and potentially life-threatening illness. Although most people recover within seven to ten days after infection, at risk groups such as: pregnant women, individuals with compromised immune systems, young children and the elderly are most at risk for developing serious complications. Complications may include: seizures, strokes and renal system damage, forcing individuals to require blood transfusions and kidney dialysis. In extreme cases of illness, death.
Roger Dumoulin-White, President and CEO of Theralase stated that, “We are encouraged that our patented Photo Dynamic Compounds (PDCs) are proving effective in so many varied applications. Not only are these PDCs being shown to be effective in the destruction of cancer cells, but now they are also being shown to be effective in the destruction of various types of bacteria, including Listeria and E. coli. Commercialization of these technologies becomes more and more apparent, as our research and development progresses, allowing us the opportunity to introduce these technologies to the world in a variety of diverse applications.”
Mr. Dumoulin-White added “In developing and commercializing this new application of our patented PDC technology Theralase plans to work with a variety of organizations, including: food processing organisations, food processing equipment manufacturers, academic institutions, hospitals, medical practitioners and medical equipment manufacturers interested in bacterial destruction applications.”

Cold Laser Therapy for Dogs and Cats

Laser Therapy for the Older Dog or Cat
“You are going to LASER my dog?”
Yes, lasers are being used by veterinarians in the treatment of your four-legged companion. We are accustomed to hearing of lasers being used in applications as diverse as telecommunications to manufacturing computer circuit boards. Now, they are even treating pain and inflammation in world class athletes, race horses and yes, household pets. Lasers have been used for advanced medical applications for over 35 years. Ever since their invention, lasers have been a cool device in search of an application. Medicine is one of many areas where lasers have made a considerable impact: vision correction, general surgery, lithotripsy, hair removal, cataract removal, wrinkle reduction, and tattoo removal are just a few of the common uses for lasers today.
A relatively new application is the use of lasers for the relief of pain, the reduction of
swelling, and the healing of wounds. This is a unique use of laser light, due to the noninvasive nature of the treatment. Many laser applications use the intense energy which a laser can deliver, to ablate or cut biological tissue. Therapeutic lasers, in contrast, work without any damage to tissue; the treatments are painless and quite enjoyable. Simply pass the laser over the body part and the pain goes away and the healing starts.
Almost sounds too good to be true. Laser therapy is now being used by top doctors around the world. Professional sports teams are regularly utilizing laser therapy.

Today’s veterinarian has access to this advanced laser technology, which can make a big difference in the care of older canines. Aging dogs are prone to arthritis, stiffness, and other painful conditions just like we are as we age. Pain medications and anti-inflammatory drugs can have some very serious side effects on dogs, and long-term use of these medications is not ideal. Laser therapy is a safe, drug-free alternative to treat many common conditions, including arthritis. Older dogs can display pain in different ways and often compensate for the pain by favoring one side while walking. Pet owners will often note reluctance, by their pet to climb stairs, or hesitancy to jump in the car. These symptoms need to be addressed as soon as possible, as this behavior can lead to increasing problems. When started early, laser therapy treatments will start the healing process, reducing possible long-term problems, which may require the use of pain medications or even a major surgery like a joint replacement. Treating conditions early is the key.
